I’ve always enjoyed a good burger, but I’m more of a McNugget fan when it comes to McDonald’s. So, when I heard that McDonald’s was finally bringing the Chicken Big Mac to the U.S., I was intrigued.
This popular item has made its way around menus in other countries, but now it’s available here, and I couldn’t wait to try it.
Naturally, I had some questions. Would it taste more like a McChicken or a McCrispy? Or would it resemble a flatter, more extensive version of a McNugget? Luckily, I got an early taste of the Chicken Big Mac, which didn’t disappoint. It was better than expected.
What’s Inside the Chicken Big Mac?
The Chicken Big Mac is similar to the iconic Big Mac we all know and love, first introduced in 1968. It has three pieces of bread, two chicken patties, shredded lettuce, pickles, a slice of American cheese, and the beloved Big Mac Sauce.
The chicken patties are what set it apart, though. They’re tempura-battered, giving them a crispy, McNugget-like texture that adds a familiar crunch. While the original Big Mac features onions, the Chicken Big Mac skips them entirely, which I didn’t mind. It helped the chicken flavor shine through.
A Saucy New Addition
I noticed immediately that this sandwich felt a bit saucier than the classic Big Mac. Maybe it was just my sandwich, but the Big Mac Sauce seemed more generously applied. I loved that extra flavor, even if it made the sandwich messy.
The chicken patties are more significant than the beef patties in a traditional Big Mac. They’re even a little wider than the buns, which, while delicious, made it a little tricky to eat without it falling apart.
After my first bite, I had to reassemble my sandwich, but everyone else seemed to manage just fine.
A Solid Choice for Chicken Lovers
Overall, I found the Chicken Big Mac a satisfying twist on a McDonald’s classic. If you’re a McDonald’s chicken sandwich fan, this is worth a try. The familiar Big Mac flavors are there, but the crispy chicken patties give it a new spin many people will love.
In a statement about the new menu item, Tariq Hassan, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer at McDonald’s USA, said, “With the introduction of the Chicken Big Mac, we’re excited to pay homage to one of our most iconic menu items, the Big Mac, and introduce it to a whole new generation of fans.”
